[ecrea] Philosophy of Communication - Election of Management Team [apologies for cross-posting]

Dear colleagues,
 
At the upcoming Business Meeting of the Section for the Philosophy of
Communication, a new Section Management Team will be elected. The
Business Meeting will take place during the ECC08 conference, on 26
November at 14:00. Venue: Room 129. There will be a ballot during this
meeting. According to the modus operandi of the Section, only Section
members can cast their vote. Anyone who is interested in joining our
section can attend the Business Meeting and be registered as a member
there.
 
Section members who will not attend the Business Meeting can cast their
vote electronically. We have set up a user-friendly electronic ballot
system for this purpose. If you want to make use of it, send an email
with your name to Tino Meitz ((tino.meitz /at/ gmail.com)). He will send you
the instructions for voting. The deadline for receiving electronic votes
is November 24.
 
The current Chair, Colin Grant, and current Vice-Chair, Tino Meitz, will
step down. We thank them here, and will do so during the business
meeting more fully, for the hard work and leadership they have provided
during the founding period of the section.
 
Current Vice-Chair Johan Siebers will run for election as Chair, with
Vice-Chairs Bart Vandenabeele and Vivienne Boon. They will present a
strategic plan for the coming period during the business meeting.
 
No other candidates put themselves forward for election.
 
You can only vote for the candidates as a team, with voting options YES,
NO, ABSTAIN.
 
Johan SIEBERS is senior lecturer in English Language and Linguistics in
the School for Journalism, Media and Communication of the University of
Central Lancashire. He is also a visiting research fellow at the
Institute of Germanic and Romance Studies of the School of Advanced
Study of London University. His research in the philosophy of
communication focuses mainly on post-Kantian German thought, in
particular the history of philosophies of dialogue. His publications
include a study on the metaphysics of A.N. Whitehead, and several
contributions on the philosophy of Ernst Bloch, metaphysics, social and
cultural philosophy and the philosophy of communication. He is
editor-in-chief of Empedocles - European Journal for the Philosophy of
Communication. Next to his academic work, Johan has had a career in
communication management, external affairs and scenario planning with
Royal Dutch Shell. He is a board member of the Ernst-Bloch-Gesellschaft
(Ludwigshafen).
 
Bart VANDENABEELE is Professor of Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art at
Ghent University (Belgium). He is the author and editor of several books
in aesthetics, philosophy of art, and philosophy of communication. He
has published numerous contributions in books and journals on
aesthetics, the history of philosophy, and the philosophy of
communication in English, German, Portuguese and Dutch. He has been a
visiting professor at Stellenbosch University and Missouri Western
University. He is the editor of
A Companion to Schopenhauer (forthcoming from Wiley-Blackwell) and
associate editor of Empedocles: European Journal for the Philosophy of
Communication.

Vivienne BOON is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Surrey.
She obtained a BA in Media, Communication and Cultural Studies (first
class) at the University of Leeds, and an MA in Social and Political
Thought (with distinction) from the University of Warwick. She is
currently in the process of submitting her PhD ‘Habermas's Writings on
Europe: Not Habermasian Enough?' to the University of Liverpool. This
PhD thesis was undertaken in the Department of Philosophy and funded by
the first prestigious Duncan Norman Scholarship.Vivienne's research
interests are primarily in social and political philosophy, philosophy
of communication, moral philosophy, critical theory (especially
Habermas), ethics of war and violence, politics of identity and
recognition, global justice and human rights, cosmopolitanism, ethics of
tort
ure, and Europeanization.
Vivienne is the Reviews Editor for Philosophy of Communication . She is on the editorial board of
Sociological Research Online. She was the Assistant Editor of the
European Journal for Social Theory and has reviewed articles submitted
to various journals, including Theory, Culture and Society , Res
Republica and the Journal of Global Ethics.
