Symposium Campaigning for Europe
Information/Registration: www.ipw.uni-landau.de/symposium.htm
Dear colleagues,
we would like to draw your attention to an international symposium:
Campaigning for Europe
Parties, Campaigns, Mass Media and the European Parliamentary Elections 2004
The symposium will take place on October 1-3, 2004 at Landau (Germany). It is
sponsored by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation and hosted by the Department for
So-cial
Sciences (Political Science) and the Department for Communication Psychology,
Media Education and Speech Science at the University Koblenz-Landau, Campus
Landau (Germany).
The conference will focus on the 2004 European Parliamentary Elections, a
unique
event within the on-going process of European Integration that has gained
impor-tance
in light of the enlargement of the EU, the debate about a European
Constitu-tion
and the strengthening of the European Parliament. The symposium intends to
initiate an international, comparative, and interdisciplinary debate on
this complex
phenomenon. Within several panels, campaign strategies, the role of the media,
and the effects of campaign communication on perceptions and electoral behavior
will be discussed.
About two dozen renowned European scholars will come to Landau (Germany) to
present their empirical results as well as theoretical reflections on one
of the most
important issues in contemporary political communication research. Their
findings
will be confronted with the views of political actors, campaign managers,
and jour-nalists,
thereby bridging the often-mentioned gap between theory and practice in
modern political communication.
The conference language will be English.
Enclosed you will find the preliminary program, a registration form and a
list of ho-tels.
For further information please take a look at the conferences homepage at
www.ipw.uni-landau.de/symposium.htm. An early registration is recommended.
We look forward to welcome you at Landau in October 2004.
Sincerely
Michaela Maier and Jens Tenscher
