Remuneration: A package consisting of:
- Salary range $45,239 - $55,099 perannum
- Remuneration range $52,929 -$64,465 per annum including employer superannuation contributions of 17%of salary.
An employee superannuation contribution of 7% of salary is mandatory, which may be salary sacrificed from pre-tax earnings.

BACKGROUND
Organisational Environment The School of Journalism and Communication offers programs on both the St Lucia and Ipswich Campuses. Staff members of the School hold excellent reputations both academically and professionally. Some have authored texts or lead research and publication in their field. The School operates in a dynamic environment with its programs designed to be at the cutting edge. There is a strong focus on applied skills, in addition to a serious emphasis on theory and research in journalism and communication. The School has a reputation for Journalism education in Australia, offering Undergraduate/Honours and Postgraduate degrees in Journalism on the St Lucia campus. The School publishes an innovative monthly newspaper, The Queensland Independent, and produces a weekly current affairs program for Brisbane public radio. The Schoo
l also offers a Communication and Public Relations program through the Bachelor of Social Science degree at the Ipswich campus. This program is attracting an increasing number of students, with strong links between the program and local businesses and organizations. The St Lucia campus stands on the edge of the Brisbane River, seven kilometres from Brisbane City Centre. It is a beautiful campus, with trees, lakes and pathways along the river. Library and facilities are state-of-the-art. The Ipswich campus is 40 kilometres from Brisbane, with easy access by bus or train. This campus is set in extensive grounds that integrate heritage-listed buildings with the most modern facilities and structures.

DUTY STATEMENT
Primary Purpose of Position The appointee will be expected to work within the broad parameters of a research project deemed appropriate by the School of Journalism and Communication.
Duties Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Research · Develop a program of research that will contribute to the research profile of the School.
- Write grantapplications and seek other sources of external funding.
- Contribute to fundedresearch projects as appropriate.
- Contribute to researchpublications as sole or joint author.
- Assist in organizingresearch and scholarly activities such as seminar programs andconferences.
- Supervise postgraduateresearch students where appropriate.
- Work with colleaguesand postgraduates in the development of collaborative research projects.
- Contribute to teachingprograms within the appointee’s expertise.
- Maintain high ethicaland professional standards.
Community Service · Foster relations with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community. Administration · Perform a range of administrative functions in the School as appropriate.

Qualifications Essential · PhD in a relevant field of journalism and/or communication.
