announcing the launch of

THE AUSTRALASIAN CULTURAL STUDIES FORUM

discussion list of the cultural studies association of australasia

The CSAA forum is a new email list for those teaching, studying and
researching cultural studies and the study of culture in Australia and
New Zealand. The forum will promote theme-based discussions on
practical aspects of pursuing cultural studies research in Australasia,
providing assistance, advice and solidarity for cultural studies
practitioners at all levels: undergraduate and Honours students, PhD
candidates, independent researchers, writers, journalists and
academics. It will also act as a platform for educational, government
and public institutions interested in forming relations, or making
contact with, such practitioners.

The forum aspires to be a leading outlet for the development,
discussion and distribution of new trends in cultural studies research.
It particularly welcomes posts relating to the following (and on
occasion stimulus for such discussion will be solicited by the list
facilitator):

- cultural issues of significance to Australia and New Zealand
- policy initiatives and how they affect cultural studies practice
- new work in cultural studies: position pieces, reviews of new books,
work in progress, theoretical debates
- ideas for new applications, events or collaborations in the field
- conference reports, reviews or responses to key papers
- advice or requests for assistance on writing grant applications for
cultural studies projects
- fielding inquiries from media, government and students interested in
the field
- advice on courses or departments specialising in cultural studies
- forging links with other cultural studies networks internationally

Participants might view the list as a stimulus for writing, a nexus for
intellectual dialogue and exchange, and/or an historical archive for
cultural studies work. It endeavours to fill a gap in cultural studies
listservers on the internet by avoiding a broadcast model: it wants to
provide a home for generative and generous dialogue and debate. The
list is especially keen to introduce measures that avoid an East-coast,
metropolitan bias in discussions of Australian culture, and it is
expected that all posts will keep matters of address, audience and
assumption in mind. No attachments should be sent to the list. All
announcements, including manuscript calls, book chapter calls or
journal special issues, conference/ seminar announcements, job
vacancies, book releases, journal releases and attendant launches
should be sent to the existing CSAA announcements list,
(csaa /at/ central.murdoch.edu.au).

For those wishing to limit email, subscribe to the digest version.

The list website is www.csaa-forum.org
