EU gives RTL go-ahead in n-tv purchase

The EU has given RTL the go-ahead to purchase a stake in the
Berlin-based n-tv channel.

The move involves Bertelsmann-owned RTL, Europe's largest private
broadcaster, buying the TV and radio assets of publishers Georg von
Holtzbrinck for 170m euros.

The Holtzbrinck group holds a 47.3 per cent share in n-tv, as well as
assets in 12 radio stations. The EU Commission examined the buy-out and
decided that with a 0.7 per cent market share, n-tv was only a small
player, and that the purchase could take place without monopolisation
issues.
