JOURNALISM TRAINING
------------------------

ETHICS IN CONFLICTS REPORTING, Maastricht,
July 1-3, 2002

Organised by the European Journalism Centre and AMSU, Mastricht

International media coverage of contemporary wars and conflicts often
encourages misunderstandings of complex situations. Journalists are
faced with problems of reporting cultural differences, often arising
from their own perspectives, which too regularly leads to stereotyping,
ignorance or bias. This course will examine questions as: How sensitive
to cultural diversity can journalists be? And how to handle censorship
in countries where not journalists but undemocratic politicians rule the
media? The journalistic ethics, in a time when the multicultural nature
of the world as a whole is undeniable, may need to be reformulated.
