Title: Reminder: Deadline for abstracts 1 June for 2001/2002 Doctoral Summer School

The European Consortium for Communications Research (ECCR)

invites applications by PhD-candidates for the

2001/2002 Doctoral Summer School

at the University of Westminster, London, U.K.
which will be held from August 28 to September 6, 2002.

The 2001/2002 Doctoral Summer School will be divided into two parts of 5 days.

(a) Theme: public access and interactivity in the digital age (August 28 - September 1)

This first part of the summer school is student based, and will involve a series of workshops and presentations relating to the doctoral students' research. Outside speakers will discuss research related to this topic.

(b)    Theme: public service broadcasting in the digital age (2 - 6 September)

The last five days of the summer school involves structured events (lectures/seminars/workshops).

This summer school offers an invaluable opportunity for international doctoral students to disseminate their research, assess the international standards for doctoral research in media and communication and network with scholars and peers in their field.

The total cost for selected students is 325 Euros for 5 days. This sum covers registration, meals and accommodation.

This invitation is only open to ECCR-members. Prior to applying, interested students are advised to check whether their institution is member of the ECCR.

An outline of their research topic (no more than 150 words) should be submitted before June 1, 2002.

If accepted a full copy of the paper must be submitted by the student before the conference. There is a standardised format:

a.    What is the research topic?
b.    What is the research issue?
c.    What research methods you propose to do to find the answers?
d.    Particular issues to be discussed
e.    Short bibliography

The paper should be between 2,500 - 3,000 (max) words in length plus bibliographies. The deadline for submission is the end of July.

Also, each student should attach 6 questions arising out of their paper that would then lead on to a lively debate and get others thinking about the paper and its implications.
