Call for Papers for issues 3 and 4.

/Tecmerin: Journal of Audiovisual Essays /launches the CFPs for its 
third and fourth issue. It is a biannual, peer-reviewed journal, 
published by the research group Tecmerin (Television, Cinema, Memory, 
Representation and Industry) of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid 
(Department of Journalism and Media Studies).
Tecmerin: Revista de Ensayos Audiovisuales focuses on Spanish and Latin 
American cultural production. Consequently, we invite scholars, 
researchers and creators to send pieces centered on the production, 
consumption, circulation and cultural exchange within these geographical 
areas.

In issue 3 we maintain an open CFP, with a special interest, although 
not exclusive, in Spanish and Latin American cultural production. 
Consequently, we especially invite scholars, researchers and creators to

Deadline for proposals: October 15th, 2019.

Issue 4 will focus on “Censorship and Media”, with profesor Manuel 
Palacio as guest editor.

CFP: CENSORSHIP AND MEDIA (guest editor, Manuel Palacio)

In the last few years, there has been a generalized re-definition of the 
parameters that define freedom of speech in relation to previous 
decades. Increasingly, certain legislative, judicial and institutional 
decisions are reminiscent of forms of censorship that existed in the 
past. This tendency is clearly visible in countries with 
well-established democracies such as France or the United Kingdom but it 
is even more discernible in territories from Eastern Europe, Asia and 
America with less consolidated egalitarian regimes. In Tecmerin: Journal 
of Audiovisual Media, we are interested in reflecting upon the lessening 
of freedom of speech within audiovisual media and the Internet. We are 
proposing the following areas of analysis, although we also invite 
contributors to approach other, related, issues:

Film censorship and controversies in the public sphere.
Censorship and damage. The protection of specific audience groups.
Censorship and gender.
The representation of the censor in cinema and television.
Dubbing and censorship.
Double or multiple versions of films or television series.
Censorship in film history.
Censorship in television history.

Instructions for authors:
  Researchers and creators may send their audiovisual essays to one of 
the following sections:

1. Video-Essays:  audiovisual essays that offer a critical take on 
diverse aspects of cinema, television and popular culture.
2. Creators:  experimental or documentary pieces that approach a 
specific cultural topic.

Video-Essays must be uploaded on VIMEO, as private. Each author will 
send the following information to the this email (tecmerinrevista /at/ uc3m.es)

1. Vimeo url address.
2. Password for video.
3. 400-600 word text, presenting the video in pdf format (also anonymous).

Deadlines:
Issue 3, open CFP, October 15th, 2019
Issue 4, CFP “Censorship and Media”, January 15th, 2020.

Videos cannot contain the name of the author to facilitate the blind 
peer review.
Language: Video essays can be in any language with Spanish or/and 
English subtitles.

Length: the preferred length of the video essays is 10 minutes 
approximately.

The presentation text must be in Spanish or English. If the video is 
accepted, we recommend authors to include the presentation text and 
subtitles both in Spanish and English in order to increase the 
visibility of their pieces.

We recommend using a professional subtitling program such as “Aegisub” o 
“Jubler”. As an alternative, authors may use the subtitles function 
within the VIMEO interface.

Call for Papers números 3 y 4

Tecmerin: Revista de Ensayos Audiovisuales lanza su tercera y cuarta 
convocatoria para la publicación de vídeo ensayos. Es una publicación 
semestral, con revisión por pares, enmarcada en las actividades del 
grupo de investigación Tecmerin (Televisión, Cine, Memoria, 
Representación e Industria) de la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid 
(Departamento de Periodismo y Comunicación Audiovisual).

En el número 3 mantenemos nuestra CFP abierta, con un interés especial, 
aunque no exclusivo, en la producción cultural de España y 
Latinoamérica. Por consiguiente, y de una manera amplia, se invita a 
mandar propuestas focalizadas en la producción, consumo, circulación e 
intercambio cultural en estas áreas geográficas.

La fecha de envío límite para el número 3 es el 15 de octubre del 2019.

El número cuatro será un monográfico especial sobre el tema “Censura y 
Medios Audiovisuales”, con el catedrático Manuel Palacio como editor 
invitado.

La fecha de envío límite para el número 4 es el 15 de enero del 2019.

A continuación detallamos las características de la CFP de “Censura y 
medios audiovisuales e instrucciones para autores.

CFP: CENSURA Y MEDIOS AUDIOVISUALES (editor invitado, Manuel Palacio)

En los últimos años ha sido visible por todos los lugares un retroceso 
de los parámetros en que se había movido en décadas pasadas la libertad 
de expresión; cada vez son más frecuentes decisiones legislativas, 
judiciales o institucionales que recuerdan las prácticas de la censura 
como se ejerció en otros momentos. El fenómeno se percibe tanto en 
lugares de democracia asentada como Francia o el Reino Unido pero sobre 
todo en países con poca tradición en el régimen de libertades como los 
de Europa del Este, de Asia o de América.

En la Revista de Ensayos audiovisuales queremos lanzar un cfp para 
reflexionar sobre las formas de limitación de la libertad de expresión 
en los soportes audiovisuales o internet.  Se proponen las siguientes 
áreas de análisis, aunque se invita a los ponentes a abordar otras 
temáticas:

Censura fílmica y Controversias en el espacio publico
Censura y daño. La protección de públicos específicos
Censura y género
La representación del censor en el cine o la televisión.
Doblaje y censura.
Dobles y múltiples versiones de films o series televisivas.
La censura en la historia del cine.
La censura en la historia de la televisión.

Instrucciones de Envío:

Los investigadores y creadores audiovisuales pueden mandar sus 
propuestas a una de estas dos secciones:

1. Vídeo-Ensayos: ensayos audiovisuales que proporcionen una visión 
crítica sobre aspectos del cine, la televisión o la cultura popular de 
manera más amplia.
2. Creadores: propuestas de cariz experimental o documental que se 
aproximan a un ámbito cultural específico.

Los vídeo-ensayos deberán subirse a VIMEO en formato privado. Cada 
autor/a mandará lo siguiente información a este email 
(tecmerinrevista /at/ gmail.com) <mailto:(tecmerinrevista /at/ gmail.com)>:
1. Url del vídeo.
2. Contraseña del vídeo.
3. Texto de presentación del vídeo de 400-600 palabras (también anónimo).

Fechas límites de envío:
número 3, CFP abierta, 15 de Octubre 2019
número  4, CFP “Censura y Medios Audiovisuales”, 15 de Enero, 2020.

Ni los vídeos enviados ni los textos deben contener el nombre de su 
autor o autora con el fin de facilitar la revisión por pares.

Idiomas: Los vídeo-ensayos pueden ser en cualquier idioma con subtítulos 
en español y/o inglés.

Duración: La duración máxima de los vídeo-ensayos es preferentemente de 
10 minutos o menos.

El texto de presentación el vídeo debe ser en español o inglés. Si el 
vídeo es aceptado para su publicación, se recomienda enviar el texto de 
presentación en español e inglés así como incluir subtítulos en ambos 
idiomas con el fin de tener mayor repercusión.

Se recomienda utilizar un programa profesional de subtitulado como 
“Aegisub” o “Jubler”, o si aceptada la propuesta finalmente, escribir 
los subtítulos en VIMEO, plataforma en la que se alojará la revista.
