*Senior Lecturer in Filmmaking*

The BA Filmmaking course leader enhances the student experience through effective leadership and management and influencing the delivery of high-calibre pedagogy, research, and innovation. This immensely rewarding, diverse and varied role involves setting the academic and strategic teaching and learning agenda for the course alongside solving day to day practical problems as part of a team. The role demands both intellectual rigour and a practical, hands-on approach to teaching and learning, and organisation and management.

BA Filmmaking at Kingston School of Art encourages students to explore all forms of moving image practice, across fiction, non-fiction, experimental and hybrid modes of production, in both analogue and digital formats. You will work with our dynamic and dedicated educators, practitioners, and researchers to promote and foster an innovative, inclusive, and supportive pedagogic environment that equips our students with the academic, social and personal skills to prosper in global and diverse environments.

The Course Leader has responsibility for undergraduate curriculum planning and development, assessment, and quality assurance processes; working with module leaders to ensure that the learning experience is relevant to contemporary professional and research developments within filmmaking.

Taking responsibility for a subject area which is taught through a series of project-led practice modules embracing research and experimentation, you’ll co-ordinate a team of talented lecturers/practitioners to deliver the vibrant, real-world education your students deserve. A natural leader and resource manager, you will also plan, deliver, and assess a range of modules, using a variety of technologies and approaches, and lead the Admissions process.

The role provides the opportunity to work with a diverse and international group of students, therefore the course leader should be committed to developing innovative teaching and learning strategies that support our students and our strategic priority to decolonise and internationalise the curriculum.

*The Person*

We’re looking for an innovative academic professional with a commitment and passion for filmmaking teaching and learning to take responsibility for the leadership and management of the BA Filmmaking course. You will draw on your professional experience as a filmmaker to promote integrated professional practice across everything you do, imparting practical filmmaking knowledge to students that they will take with them in their future careers.

The successful candidate will have a filmmaking degree, or equivalent professional experience, with an established or emerging research profile; and experience offering quality teaching, assessment, feedback and tutoring to a diverse range of students at HE Level, particularly in the areas of fiction writing, directing, and producing. You will be an excellent communicator and collaborator, who works effectively within diverse teams with colleagues. We actively support applications from underrepresented communities and female applicants.

*The Faculty*

The School of Art and Architecture is a vibrant community of undergraduate and postgraduate students, comprising three departments – Film and Photography, Architecture and Landscape and Fine Art. A distinctive feature of the School is its well-established and renowned practice-based doctoral programme linked to high-quality staff research through practice.
