We are seeking an excellent individual who has detailed knowledge and
experience of both current industry practice in single camera film and
television production, and working in academia. The ideal candidate
will have demonstrated expertise in cinematography for commercial film
or television as well as strong knowledge of production processes more
generally. We particularly encourage applications from female and BAME
candidates, who are currently under-represented within the University of
York in this area.
The successful candidate will join an innovative and rapidly expanding
department that brings together research, teaching and commercial
activities in the fields of film, television, theatre and interactive media.
*Role*
The successful candidate will play a significant role in the delivery
and assessment of single-camera film and television production teaching
with the focus on cinematography. They will contribute to
production-related modules for our ScreenSkills-accredited /BSc in Film
and Television Production/ and /MA in Film and Television Production
with Cinematography/. They will also be involved in the supervision of
students as well as undertaking administrative responsibilities in the
Department. In addition:
For a teaching and scholarship (T&S) contract: they will exhibit links
to professional work in the field of cinematography through commercial
outlets and/or disseminate related scholarship through conventional
channels.
For a research and teaching (ART) contract: they will carry out and
publish high impact research across cinematography-related subjects in
quality journals, and devise, direct and develop projects generating
external research funding.
*Skills, Experience & Qualification needed*
The successful candidate will have detailed knowledge and experience of
current industry practice and working in academia as well as have the
ambition to make an impact in their field, demonstrate
internationally-relevant scholarship through either professional
practice or conventional academic research, and inspire students through
innovative teaching. They will ideally have demonstrated expertise in
cinematography through professional work in film or television and
possess strong knowledge of digital production workflows. This should
include professional credits in camera or lighting department roles for
national or internationally released film or television work and
experience in one or more of the following areas:
* location-based narrative (fiction) production;
* commercial short form work (e.g., advertisements, music promos);
* single-camera studio-based production;
* documentary production;
* DIT procedures and digital cinema workflows
A PhD in Film and Television Production (ideally with an emphasis in
Cinematography) or equivalent professional industry experience is
essential. In addition, experience in shooting for Virtual Production
and/or visual effects and knowledge of editing systems and techniques is
highly desirable.
