Assistant Professor (Lecturer) position in Journalism at the University of Utah Asia Campus (UAC) in Songdo, South Korea.

The Department of Communication at the University of Utah invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor (Lecturer) position in Journalism effective August 23, 2021.

Journalism is one of the most popular sequences in the Department of Communication at the University of Utah. Undergraduates in Journalism learn concepts and hone skills in print, broadcast, and online venues to prepare them for an evolving media landscape.

The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher dedicated to cultivating informed and ethical students who are ready to enter the workforce as well-prepared professionals. The standard annual teaching load for lecturers at the UAC is 3-3-1 (three courses in the fall, three courses in the spring, and one course in the interim period or summer). The successful candidate must be willing to teach courses such as: Introduction to News Writing, Media Writing, Digital Journalism, Specialty Reporting, Magazine Writing, and Visual Editing. It would also be beneficial for the candidate to be able to teach Mass Communication History, Media and Society, Principles of Visual Communication, Mass Communication Law, and/or Media Ethics. All courses taught at the UAC are in English.

Successful candidates for the position should have (at minimum) a master’s degree and evidence of teaching excellence. Pluses include: (1) journalism experience (e.g., newspaper, radio, television, digital) and/or (2) a Ph.D. in Communication or related discipline.

Established in 2014, the UAC has a growing presence in Songdo, South Korea. UAC has its own, modern, high tech building on the Incheon Global Campus. Built on reclaimed land the campus is 30 minutes from the Incheon International Airport, a major transportation hub for the larger Asian region.
