Job vacancy at the ZeMKI, Centre for Media, Communication and Information Research of the University of Bremen: Professorship for Communication and Media Studies with a focus on Digital Communication. Application deadline: 26.10.2018.

The University of Bremen wishes to fill a professorship at the Center for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) and the Institute for Historical Journalism, Communication and Media Studies (IPKM) belonging to the in Faculty 9 Cultural Studies. Applicants should be established scholars in the field of Empirical Communication and Media Studies and have a focus on Digital Communication. At the core of the professorship is a cross-media perspective on processes of digital mediation (e.g. through algorithms and data) and empirical methods of research in this field. Specific areas of research can be, for example, public spheres, popular cultures, migration communities or social movements. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in the research focus Media Change in the Faculty of Cultural Studies, interdisciplinary research cooperation at the Center for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) as well as in its research group "Communicative Figurations". The active acquisition of third-party funding will also be one of his/her tasks. In the area of teaching, the position holder should be available to teach in the degree programmes offered by the Institute for Historical Journalism, Communication and Media Studies (IPKM). In addition to thematic teaching, he/she should be able to offer relevant courses in the field of comparative research on digital communication as well as general courses in the field of communication and media studies, including methods. Active participation in the development of doctoral studies is a prerequisite.

In addition to the legal requirements pertaining to civil servants, the position holder will have an outstanding field-relevant doctorate and other relevant academic achievements of excellent quality, which may in particular be evidenced by a junior professorship or habilitation-equivalent achievements. Furthermore, he/she should be able to show pedagogical-didactical aptitude documented by accordant teaching experience. Non-German-speaking applicants are expected to be able to deliver courses and lectures in the German language within 2-3 years of accepting their appointment. The appointment is in accordance with § 18 Bremer Hochschulgesetz and § 116 Bremer Beamtengesetz.
