Situated within one of the UK’s leading universities for research and teaching, the Centre for Cultural Policy Research (CCPR) at the University of Glasgow has forged a reputation for its rigorous, high-impact research and analysis of media and cultural industries and policies and also for its internationally leading Masters provision. Based in CCPR, the purpose of this post is to provide academic leadership by conducting internationally-leading research, strengthening the Centre’s research in relation to media, cultural and creative industries with a particular focus on media and communications policy in an international context and to support CCPR’s teaching. The appointee will play a vital role in leading a research agenda in the Centre and the College of Arts, stimulating collaborative research and external grant applications, in line with the University, College and School and CCPR strategic objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Lead collegiately and engage in research, knowledge exchange and publication that enhances the quality of the School’s international research profile, including conducting personal research of the highest quality and maintaining a consistently high level output of publications and presentations of world-class quality. 2. Sustain internationally leading high-quality research activity, seeking and securing funding for a portfolio of research projects through grant applications to external funding bodies, including especially Research Councils. 3. Encourage and support research students of high calibre to undertake doctoral research and supervise them to completion. 4. Encourage, support and supervise research projects undertaken by research staff and postgraduate students and ensure the effective development of the staff and students. 5. Deliver a range of teaching and assessment activity at undergraduate and postgraduate level within the School and subject area. 6. Take a leading role in the design and delivery of postgraduate programmes and courses, including opportunities leading from new research. 7. Develop links with national and international organisations with a view to enhancing reputation in research and teaching in the School and in the subject area. 8. Act collegiately in a senior role within the School and/or subject area in leadership roles (including mentoring), academic administration and service and other activities as directed by the Head of School. 9. Collaborate and establish partnerships with colleagues and participate in team/group meetings/seminars/workshops across the project and in the broader/School/College/University and wider national and international community (e.g Academic and Business partners). 10. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan - Inspiring People – Changing the World.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:
A1 Good first degree in subject related area and PhD/Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 in a relevant subject area awarded (or equivalent research experience) in a related area. A2 A comprehensive and up to date knowledge of relevant research area and research integrity issues, both nationally and internationally and future direction of research in subject area. A3 A comprehensive and up to date knowledge of subject specialism, in its broadest sense.
A4 An established reputation for high quality research.
A5 An extensive track record of publications of world-leading quality.

Experience

Essential:
An established international reputation for research leadership and scholarship in a relevant subject area. Evidence of this will be given by: E1 Significant experience of research leadership and academic leadership and participation within large international collaborations. E2 Substantial track record of publication normally through books and articles in high-quality refereed journals and/or in modes and media appropriate to research specialism consistent with the highest standards in research assessments.
E3 Extensive research grant capture and project management experience.
E4 Established track record of successful supervision of research students and staff. E5 Established track record of international research engagement, for example, previous attendance at international conferences, symposia and holding visiting fellowships at non-UK universities. E6 A record of successful supervision of research students to doctoral level.
E7 Established track record of successful commercialisation of research.

Academic colleagues home and abroad for exchanging information for teaching and research strategies. Academic colleagues within the Centre/College/School to lead inter-disciplinary research.

Grant funding bodies and journals (committees, editorial boards).
Other institutions to act as External Examiner for both undergraduates and postgraduates.

World class research is a key aspect of this post, including solving research problems at the forefront of the field and the development of new ideas, methods and research projects.
Resolving issues regarding research funding.
Resolving issues arising in pursuit of research objectives.
Assisting research students resolve problems re their research.

Standard Terms & Conditions

Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade, Professor from £63,463, level 9, £51,630 - £58,089 per annum.

For Professor:
The appointment will be subject to the whole powers and conditions of any Act of Parliament, Ordinances, and Law affecting the University. The appointment is a whole-time appointment, the Professor undertaking to accept paid outside work only with the prior consent of the University Court. This provision does not apply to examinerships and such other appointments as are incidental to the ordinary course of University business

The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.

All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.

New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.

Relocation assistance will be provided where appropriate.
