Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Integrated Strategic Communication

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Department of Communication & Journalism seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Integrated Strategic Communication, effective August 26, 2019. The successful candidate will be expected to have an earned Master’s or PhD (ABD candidates completing by March 20, 2020 will also be considered.) in Mass Communication, Integrated Strategic Communication or related field with a minimum of five years professional experience in communication industry. The successful candidate will teach hands-on, experiential courses incorporating media technologies based on program needs and in accordance with specialization such as Strategic Media Planning, Message Strategy, Campaign Design & Evaluation, and Account Management. The successful candidate is expected to be active in research and service. POSITION: Tenure-track position in Integrated Strategic Communication. Ability to teach hands-on, experiential courses incorporating media technologies such as Strategic Media Planning, Message Strategy, Campaign Design and Evaluation, and Account Management essential. Ability to design and develop instruction and learning experiences that address emerging trends in the field essential. Ability to provide service in the introductory Communication course, Fundamentals of Public Speaking, diversity courses or journalism a plus. The successful applicant will be able to strengthen relationships with external constituencies in industry. Commitment to and ability to contribute to campus EDI initiatives, a plus. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2019/2020 academic year, August 26, 2019.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned Master’s or PhD in Mass Communication, Integrated Strategic Communication or related field with a minimum of five years professional experience in communication industry required. MBA or MFA in appropriate discipline also considered. (ABD applicants may be considered but must complete the terminal degree by March 20, 2020.) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Evidence of ability to design and develop instruction and learning experiences that address emerging trends in the field essential. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.

DUTIES: Teach hands-on experiential courses in the Department of Communication and Journalism based on program needs and in accordance with specialization; participate in research and scholarly activities; [develop and/or maintain a scholarly research agenda;] provide academic advising to students as assigned; engage in service to the department, University and profession.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Communication and Journalism consists of 14 full-time faculty and academic staff committed to a philosophy emphasizing the development, integration and practical application of theories, knowledge and skills related to communication and journalism. Communication and journalism are crucial to a democratic society. Both require citizens to share and challenge information.
