Lingnan University, a distinctive liberal arts institution in the Hong
Kong Special Administrative Region, is committed to the provision of
quality whole-person education by combining the best of Chinese and

academic Faculties, it offers a wide range of undergraduate degree
programmes in arts, business and social sciences. Lingnan’s liberal
arts education is characterised by a broad-based interdisciplinary
curriculum with specialised disciplinary studies; close student-staff
relationship; a vibrant residential campus; ample global learning
opportunities; active community engagement and multifarious workplace
experience. The University also offers postgraduate programmes up to
doctoral level in various disciplines. Applications are now invited for

The Department (http://www.LN.edu.hk/cultural/) offers a Bachelor of
Arts (Hons) in Cultural Studies with a strong interdisciplinary
orientation. It admits postgraduate research students leading to the
award of MPhil and PhD degrees. The Department also offers a
self-financed taught programme leading to the Master degree of Cultural
Studies and will soon launch a new taught programme leading to the
Master degree of Performance Studies.
Requirements
Candidates should have a PhD degree in a cognate field of study,
experience in academic administration and team-work, a distinguished
record of research and publications, and an international reputation of
trans-disciplinary/interdisciplinary scholarship in one or more of the
following areas: cultural theory, pedagogy, performance studies,
gender/sexuality, politics of knowledge, postcolonial studies, cultural
geography, digital cultural studies, media culture and cultural
industry. A demonstrable interest in cultural studies in Asia (including
inter-Asian projects) will be a definite advantage. The successful
applicant will be expected to work with senior faculty in providing
strong academic leadership in curriculum development, teaching and
research. For appointment as Professor, candidates should have
substantial research and teaching experience with significant scholarly
publications in leading journals and academic achievements. For
appointment as Associate Professor, candidates should have at least five
years of relevant experience and a good track record in research and
scholarly activities in the areas mentioned above. The appointee will be
required to conduct teaching and research, engage in knowledge transfer
projects, and take up service duties.
Lingnan University is fully committed to the pursuit of excellence in
both teaching and research. The appointee should demonstrate commitment
to teaching and research excellence, and will be expected to apply for
external competitive research grants, publish in reputable international
journals in the field and contribute to the department’s post-graduate
degree programmes. Candidates are required to provide information on
their research records and evidence of quality teaching. Administrative
experience will be an advantage.
Appointment
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and
remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits,
mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits and incoming
passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years,
which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may normally lead to
longer-term appointment with possibility of consideration for
substantiation. For appointment at the rank of Professor, appointment
with substantiation will normally be considered.
