The Department of Humanities & Creative Writing at Hong Kong Baptist
University is seeking to make an appointment in support of a research
niche area of the Faculty of Arts that emphasizes transcultural and
interdisciplinary interpretation of historical and cultural phenomena.
The appointee is expected to be an experienced and innovative scholar
with a track record of (1) engaging in cultural studies from a critical
historiographic / genealogical perspective; and (2) doing archival
research (broadly conceived). An interest in historical cultural
studies of gender, sexuality, and race/ethnicity is a plus. He/She
should be able to teach a range of courses, including both core and
electives courses, in the Department's undergraduate Humanities
programme, general education courses, etc.
The appointee is also expected to be an active member in Department and
Faculty-level activities including (but not limited to) work in the
areas of curriculum design, undergraduate and postgraduate student
mentoring, quality assurance, and supervision of undergraduate honours
projects and postgraduate research. He/She will be expected to recruit
and supervise top-quality, international PhD candidates in support of
the Department's effort to internationalize our research postgraduate
studies programme.
Applicants should possess a PhD degree in fields conversant with
cultural studies. They should be proven researchers of impact with a
successful track record in their own research specialization, in
acquiring publicly funded grants, and in service to the global
profession. They should also possess a strong and active research
programme, as well as a demonstrated interest in collaborative work in
the cross-cultural context. A commitment to working in a multilingual
and cross-cultural setting is essential.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years
commencing September 2017. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to
mutual agreement and availability of funding.

publications, preferably three best ones out of their most recent
publications/works, statements of teaching and research interest and
recent teaching evaluation results. Applicants should also request two

Office direct. Applicants not invited for interview 4 months after the
closing date may consider their applications unsuccessful. All
application materials including publication samples, scholarly/creative
works will not be returned after the completion of the recruitment
