Sexuality and Gender Research in the Arts & Humanities and Social Sciences
University of Brighton’s Doctoral Training Partnerships offer
opportunities for funded PhD research in the area of Sexuality and
Gender Research with top quality research training programmes and
excellent cross-institutinal links and external partnerships.
The University'sTransforming Sexuality and Gender Research Cluster can
provide expert supervision teams and subject-specific methodological
training.
The Transforming Sexuality and Gender Research Cluster at the University
of Brighton homes internationally recognised scholars who work in and
across a wide range of fields intersecting with the study of genders and
sexualities, across the Arts & Humanities and the Social Sciences.
We are inviting prospective doctoral students who are interested in
applying for studentships either through the AHRC Techne Scheme or ESRC
South Coast programme, with a focus on innovative and interdisciplinary
Gender and Sexualities research.
The transforming sexuality and gender research cluster brings together
researchers from across the university who are working on themes related
to sexuality, gender and social change with a core focus on producing
research with community partners that impacts on policy and practice.
The cluster incorporates two key research themes:
LGBTQ Lives Research
Sex, Sexuality and Health
We are committed to cutting edge research and community engagement. Many
of our researchers have a shared commitment to feminist,
post-structuralist and queer theoretical approaches and use a variety of
methodologies that are participatory, visual and creative.
The Cluster offers an opportunity to work with researchers
specialising in gender and sexualities research across a broad range of
subject areas, including:
Human Geography
Media Studies
Cultural Studies and Popular Culture Social and Mobile Media
Drama and Sexualities
Early Modern Sexuality and Gender
Literature and Film
Activism
Sexualities, Health & Mental Health
Sexual Practices, Identities and Cultures
Health Inequalities
Youth Gender Cultures
We welcome expressions of interest from potential applicants interested
in pursuing PhD research in the areas listed above.
PhD students will have access to the Cluster’s own methodological space,
The Creative Methods Lab, brand new and beautifully designed facilities
where researchers meet to develop and conduct research, using state-of
the-art visual and audio recording equipment.
Applicants will need to meet AHRC / ESRC eligibility criteria for funding.
