Summary of Role
The Leicester Media School in the Faculty of Technology, De Montfort University, wishes to appoint a VC2020 Lecturer (a role which combines teaching and research 50/50) to take a leading role in the development of undergraduate Journalism at DMU, and to make a contribution to the research culture of the School. Journalism provision at DMU (which scored 100% for overall satisfaction in the 2016 NSS) has grown steadily. New developments in Broadcast Journalism and other areas of journalistic practice, enhanced by a Masters degree in Investigative Journalism (run in partnership with Channel 4), have reinforced our high profile work in this popular field.

The post holder will therefore be expected to lead and deliver elements of practical journalism teaching, and will be encouraged to take on curriculum development and programme leadership roles where appropriate. This position has the potential for swift progression for the right person. In addition, he or she will liaise with the accrediting body (the NCTJ), and will maintain a professional profile, including the production of research outputs and the consolidation of industry links. Specific teaching and research expertise within Journalism may include, but need not be limited to, one of the following: ''citizen'' journalism, digital journalism, broadcast journalism, and investigative journalism.

The Leicester Media School provides an outstanding student experience, combining extensive commitment to employability with academic rigour and is a research leader nationally and internationally. Our undergraduate Journalism degrees have become exemplary models of accredited, professional programmes: maintaining the quality and appeal of these courses will form part of the duties of the successful candidate.
