Interrogating the rights of children and young people conference*

The 'Digital and sexual citizenship in an age of social media bans:
Interrogating the rights of children and young people' conference will
be held in Perth in July 2026. The conference explores the impact of
law, policy and public discourse on young people’s rights and lived
experience, as well as children’s agency and digital sexual citizenship
more broadly.
We are pleased to announce the keynotes for the conference will be:
* *Professor Tama Leaver: */All stick, no carrot? Deploying
Australia’s social media ban for under16s/
* *Associate Professor Megan Lim: */Young people’s perspectives on age
verification for online pornography/
* *Katrina Marson: */Young people’s access to comprehensive sexuality
education and information is a human rights issue/
* *Professor Alan McKee: */Sexual Shame and Healthy Sexual Development/
The conference will also host a special panel where our speakers will be
joined by the Commissioner for Children and Young People in WA, *Dr
Jacqueline McGowan-Jones*, for a discussion on /Supporting digital
participation and rights of children and young people: Considerations
and priorities./
