In-person bilingual conference (Hungarian and English)
Artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-based technologies have developed at
extraordinary speed and have become increasingly accessible, bringing
about changes across many areas of life, Higher Education included.
Their effective and responsible application is particularly important in
higher education, one of whose central aims is to promote social
well-being and enhance the quality of human life. Organised by the
/Artificial Intelligence and the Human/ Research Group at Pázmány Péter
Catholic University, together with the Care of Creation Research Centre
and the Genesis Excellence Workshop, this conference addresses some of
the most pressing current questions in the field, proceeding from the
conviction that the use of AI should serve the improvement of human life.
The conference seeks to provide a forum for researchers, educators, and
sector stakeholders engaged in the integration of artificial
intelligence into higher education. It aims to foster the exchange of
experience, encourage professional dialogue, and support the development
of new and innovative approaches.
*Conference themes*
The conference welcomes a broad range of contributions and encourages
interdisciplinary perspectives, with particular emphasis on the
human-centred application of generative AI. We invite proposals for
*15-minute presentations* addressing, but not limited to, the following
themes:
* *International regulatory environments*
How can higher education institutions adapt to international legal and
ethical norms? How should we understand the relationship between AI
regulation and guidance?
* *Data security and cybersecurity; AI in support of strategic and
defence operations*
How can institutions strengthen their data protection strategies as they
integrate AI technologies?
* *Ethical questions*
What moral responsibility does higher education bear in the use of AI?
How can AI be employed while safeguarding academic integrity? How can
such systems be made sustainable? How can the digital divide be
mitigated? What might transparency mean in the context of higher
education? What ethical risks are associated with automation?
* *Legal challenges*
What legal frameworks are needed to ensure that AI can be applied in
ways that protect personal data and guarantee legal certainty?
* *Theological and philosophical reflections*
What role does a human-centred value system play in the application of
AI in higher education? How should the relationship between AI and the
human person be understood? What does a Catholic perspective on AI
contribute to these debates? How do Asia and Europe differ in their
approaches to AI, and what are the roots of these differences? Is AI
best understood as a tool, an algorithmic aide, an assistant, or even a
companion?
* *New creativity*
How is artificial intelligence reshaping our understanding of
creativity? Where should the boundary between human and machine creation
be drawn? Are notions of authorship, originality, and authenticity being
transformed? What social, economic, and cultural consequences follow
from automated creativity? Does AI offer a new source of inspiration, or
does it risk cultural homogenisation? What new competences will future
creators and cultural actors require?
* *Pedagogical innovations*
How can AI reshape teaching methods, and how might it improve learning
outcomes? What risks arise from its misuse, and how can these be
avoided? In what learning situations, and in what ways, can AI be used?
Can it, for example, enhance motivation? What questions does AI raise
for the assessment of student work? How to avoid risks, such as loosing
motivation, avoidance of cognitive struggle, and unnecessary cognitive
offloading.
* *Research*
How does AI affect research, publication, data collection, and data
processing? What disciplinary differences can be observed in patterns of
AI use?
* *Technological perspectives; robotics*
What concrete technological solutions are currently available, and how
can they be applied in practice? How are robotics and AI transforming
traditional models of teaching and learning? What role might intelligent
robots play in personalised education and in the development of
inclusive learning environments? As robotics requires new skills, how is
the role of education changing with respect to creativity,
problem-solving, and collaboration? Where do the ethical and pedagogical
boundaries lie between the human teaching role and automated educational
systems?
*Target audience*
The conference will be of particular interest to leaders in higher
education, technology companies, and researchers seeking ways in which
artificial intelligence can support the development of higher education
and its social mission effectively and sustainably. The conference
places particular emphasis on supporting early-career researchers, and
welcomes submissions from doctoral candidates. For doctoral candidates,
the conference will award the prizes for the “Most Promising Research”
and “Best Presenter.”
*The role of technology companies*
The conference places particular emphasis on the participation of
technology companies, since innovations developed by industry actors are
crucial to the effective introduction of AI solutions accessible to
universities. For companies, the event offers an opportunity to present
their solutions and to establish direct links with higher education
institutions and researchers.
*Publication opportunity*
The organisers plan to publish selected studies based on papers
presented at the conference. Submitted manuscripts will appear,
following a double review process, in a bilingual volume prepared by the
research group and scheduled for publication in 2027.
*Conference fee*
*HUF 15,000*
The fee includes conference participation, buffet lunch and coffee, a
registration package, and the publication fee.
