[Commlist] CFP: Canadian Communication Association 2026 conference

Sat Oct 18 01:39:54 GMT 2025

The Canadian Communication Association invites submissions for our annual conference, to be held from June 2-4, 2026, hosted by the Department of Communication, Media and Film at the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

Windsor holds significance for the CCA. As Michael Darroch notes in his essay “Borderline Cases: Crossing Borders in Canadian Communication Studies, 1960s–1980s <https://hms.mediastudies.press/pub/am-darroch/release/2>,” the idea to form the Canadian Communication Association was first proposed at a conference at the University of Windsor in 1978. “Windsor thus played an important but underreported role in establishing the CCA as a cross-nation initiative for the field of Canadian communication studies,” Darroch writes. We look forward to meeting in Windsor to continue our almost-fifty-year tradition of gathering for research and knowledge exchange, stimulating conversation, and connecting with colleagues from across the country. Situated across the river from Detroit, on the US-Canada border, Windsor offers a geographically significant place from which to consider a range of timely questions in Canadian communication studies. We welcome researchers at all career stages to submit abstracts for presentations on the following topics, as well as others that contribute to communication, media, culture and digital technology scholarship in Canada and globally:

*Possible Topics: *CCA topics include, but are not limited to: Age, ageism and technology * Audience studies and media ethnographies * Black communication and media studies * Climate communication * Communications, community and creativity * Communication ethics; communication and media theory *Creative, ICT and cultural industries *Development communication * Empire, colonialism and communication * Environmental and energy communication * Food communication * Games studies * Global media and international communication * Health communication * ICTs, big data and society * Indigenous media studies * Intercultural communication * Journalism and news * LGBTQ communications and queer theory and media studies * Non-verbal communication * Media materialities and infrastructure studies * Media activism and social movements * Media ecology * Media philosophy * Media arts * Media and communication history * Media, cultural and ICT policy, law and regulation * Organizational Communication * Political communication * Political economy of communication *Professional communication * Public relations, marketing and advertising * Race, ethnicity and media * Research-creation and media practices * Representation, identity and culture * Rhetoric * Sexuality, gender and media * Social media and society * Telecommunications * Visual communication * Work, labour and class in communication * Youth, children and media-culture
