[Commlist] Call For Abstracts (International Communication Association 2025) - Disgust and Food Media

Diana Willis is searching for four panelists (or three and a respondent) 
to join them on a food media panel for ICA 2025 (Denver, CO; June 12 – 
16). Diana plans to submit this panel to the Popular Culture and Media 
Division.

Tentatively titled “The Yuk Factor: Food Media and a Culture of 
Disgust,” the panel will explore how creators on platforms like YouTube 
and TikTok utilize frames of disgust, distaste, and dislike to craft 
content and build communities centered around the othering of food and 
foodways. For example, how does B. Dylan Hollis on TikTok frame taste as 
a generational divide? What are the implications of viral “Disgusting 
Foods” videos? Who engages with #disgustingfoods hashtags?

If interested, please respond to the Google Form by Monday, October 
14th. Per the division’s guidelines, please send a 150-word abstract for 
your paper, as well as a brief (<100 word) description of your 
background and qualifications regarding the topic. Please use the
