Thematic editors: Ana Filipa Oliveira (Lusófona University, Portugal) and Clarisse Pessôa (European University, Portugal)

This thematic section of Revista Comunicando, entitled "Media and Information Literacy Competences in Response to Advances in AI", aims to explore how AI is contributing to the redefinition of media and information literacy competencies and how citizens, educators and professionals can prepare for these changes. This section is open to articles that offer theoretical analyses, case studies, innovative methodologies and practical experiences related to the topic. It is also open to interviews, reviews and experience reports.

Topics of interest for this section include, but are not limited to:

  * Impact of AI on media and information literacy: how AI technologies
    are changing media and information literacy competencies
  * Education and training: strategies and methodologies for teaching
    media and information literacy skills in an AI-driven world
  * Critical analysis of information: tools and approaches for analysing
    and evaluating information generated by AI systems
  * Ethics and AI in the media: ethical considerations on the use of AI
    in the creation and dissemination of media content
  * Technologies and mergers: case studies on new AI technologies and
    their impact on communication and the media
  * AI and disinformation: the role of AI in spreading disinformation
    and how to fight it
  * Human-AI interaction: users' experiences and perceptions when
    interacting with AI systems in media contexts
  * Digital inclusion and exclusion: how different groups in society
    (including the most vulnerable) benefit or are harmed by AI
    technologies

The works in the thematic section will be published between January and June 2025, in a continuous edition.

All papers are subject to a double-blind peer review process. There are no associated publication fees (article processing fees or APCs).

Revista Comunicando is an open-access academic journal dedicated to the area of Communication Sciences and its interfaces with Social and Human Sciences. Created in 2012 as part of the Young Researchers Working Group, it is one of the scientific journals of the Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences.
