Our Program
The sixth edition of “Mediating Italy in Global Culture” offers an
immersive learning experience where graduate and post-graduate students
have the opportunity to consolidate their theoretical and methodological
skills and engage in thought-provoking conversations on the forms of
production, distribution, circulation, and reception of the Italian
cultural products in the United States, the United Kingdom, the European
Union, Global South, and other national contexts, paying attention to
the crucial role that these countries play in the popularization of
Italy’s representations around the world.
Through the years, this five-day intensive program has addressed the
forms of media representations associated with Italy through lectures,
seminars, and roundtables on specific topics and case histories.
Students are also encouraged to participate actively by presenting and
discussing their research with fellow colleagues and our international
faculty. This edition of the Summer School is also scheduled to take
place just before the opening of the 2023 Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival,
thus giving interested students the possibility to continue their
learning experience in Bologna.
Lectures, seminars, and activities will delve into a variety of themes,
including:
Italian cinema (and its circulation in movie theaters, festivals, and
streaming services);
Italian television, digital platforms and digital media;
Italian novels, graphic novels and other editorial phenomena;
Italian fashion, photography, food, tourism, sports.
More specifically, this year the program will center on the complex
images and socio-cultural constructions of brand “Italy” through
fashion, photography, celebrity culture, teen film and television, film
festivals, screen and digital media. Furthermore, being Rimini the
hometown of Federico Fellini, particular attention will be placed on his
cinematography, which we’ll explore through an organized visit to the
internationally renowned Fellini Museum. Other special activities will
also include a tour of the city and an event at the historic Cinema
Fulgor, as well as a closing aperitivo on the beach.
Costs
The cost of tuition and supplementary activities is 140 euros.
Tuition includes free access to Wi-Fi on the university campus, access
to the university facilities and libraries, and organized visits.
Accommodations, meals, and transportation are not included.
Due to the touristic nature of the city of Rimini, we will notify you
promptly of your acceptance to the program in order to allow you to make
all the necessary travel arrangements ahead of time. Based on the number
of participants, we will do our best to provide you with a list of
affiliated hotels.
