[Commlist] Symposium Computational Text Analysis and Historical Change

Tue Jun 18 16:28:24 GMT 2019

Symposium “Computational Text Analysis and Historical Change”, 4–6 sep 2019 (Umeå)

The symposium “Computational Text Analysis and Historical Change” will take place on September 4–6 at Humlab (Umeå University). The starting point of this interdisciplinary event is as follows: Considering the possibility to process large amounts of text data through methods such as probabilistic topic models or word embeddings, how can historical transformations of media, culture and society be empirically measured in novel ways? We hope that you will join us in exploring answers to this questions.

We are proud to present our *five keynote speakers*:

Sarah Allison (Loyloa University)
Jo Guldi (Southern Methodist University)
David Mimno (Cornell University)
Patricia Murrieta-Flores (Lancaster University)
Mikko Tolonen (University of Helsinki)

Attached in this mail you will find the poster and schedule for the event. A detailed schedule will follow.* If you want to participate as audience please contact *(erik.edoff /at/ umu.se) <mailto:(erik.edof /at/ umu.se)>* or *(fredrik.noren /at/ umu.se) <mailto:(fredrik.noren /at/ umu.se)>*. *There will be lunches and fika, so* please specify allergies and/or if you would like vegetarian food. *
*
*
There will be *two dinners* for the speaking participants (Wednesday and Thursday), and we have room for others to join. Notify us if you want to attend the dinners as well. We can’t guarantee that there is room for all, and those who travel to Umeå from far away will be first in line.
