Under the logic of human capital (Foucault, 2007), we have witnessed the emergence of new forms of work based on a whole series of emotional aptitudes and skills. As new technologies of “the self”, these skills shape new devices to master the flexibility and self-construction of subjectivity marked by the idea that we are capitalists of our own human capital, which guides individuals in their decisions, choices and possibilities. This has led to precariousness in all walks of life and deeper exploration of ontological precariousness (Butler, 2006; Lorey, 2016). The new forms of work imposed in recent years complicate this scenario: digital work and platform capitalism, project based working, the rise of independent work, and numerous forms of entrepreneurial activity. In terms of precariousness, although some of their effects are now being studied, all these forms open up doors to a new, growing condition of precariousness that calls for investigation. In this issue of /Recerca. Revista de Pensament i Análisi/ we aim to publish papers that report recent approaches in the critical analysis of these new forms of precariousness. ____

To a large extent, the expansion of precariousness is empowered by the emerging ways in which work is organised. New forms of work have appeared (especially in companies like Uber, Deliveroo, Airbnb, etc.) that foreshadowed this new precariousness: project based work in companies, novel entrepreneurship modes (intrapreneurs, start-ups, etc.), cultural freelancers (journalists, designers, artists, etc.), consultancy, etc. These jobs have a high level of uncertainty, involve constant nomadism, favour ephemeral labour relations and hide a large volume of informal work. The new labour relations blur the wage relationship, and oblige individuals to accept growing responsibility and orientation for the risks they take. Subjects are driven to continually reconstruct through strategies such as excessive management of their reputation, which involves the creeping curtailment of their personal lives, and a false feeling of autonomy. Likewise, this unfurling of new forms of precariousness comes with a shift in management discourses, which were analysed in a previous issue of /Recerca/ (Fernández and Medina-Vicent, 2017). ____

In this issue we encourage you to present papers on the following matters:____

What consequences do new forms of work have for individuals’ subjectivities and material conditions?____

What are the typical life courses of this new organisation of work dominated by entrepreneurship, independent work, project work, etc.?____

What role do the different forms of entrepreneurship play in the spread of new kinds of precariousness?____

What forms of resistance are emerging from these new precarious subjectivities, and what is the role of traditional trade union organisations?____
