[ecrea] CFP for Charting a New Course in Media Communication

Wed Jul 29 15:47:03 GMT 2009

Call for Papers
Media Communication Interest Group
Eastern Communication Association
101st Annual Convention
Baltimore, Maryland
Hyatt Regency Baltimore on the Inner Harbor
April 22-25, 2010

The Media Communication Interest Group invites the submission of
competitive papers, panels, and other forms of scholarly presentation
(poster sessions, symposia, roundtables, etc.) for inclusion in the 101st
Annual Convention of the Eastern Communication Association.

All submissions embodying those critical, theoretical, experimental and
pedagogical approaches relevant to the study of media communication are
welcomed. But we also encourage submissions to address the convention theme
of ³Charting a New Course: Meeting New Horizons.² As the ECA website
explains, the year 2010 begins the Eastern Communication Association¹s
second century. Thus, ³charting a course² evokes a renewed sense of
direction, the temptation to define tempered by an inability to grasp what
lies beyond understandings and explanations. The metaphor of ³meeting new
horizons² captures the excitement and anxiety of exploration, the emergent
quality of the moment between known and unknown which invites responses to
that which is by definition beyond prediction or control.

Thus, explorations of emerging theoretical discourses, methodologies,
practices, processes, and technologies which either contribute to or may
enable greater understanding of the unfolding present and future of media
are warmly welcomed.

All submissions, in MS Word or PDF format, should be attached to an email
with the subject heading ³ECA Submission,² and should be sent to the
Interest Group planner at: (gordon.coonfield /at/ villanova.edu). In order to
receive full consideration, all submissions must be received by October 15,
2009 and should fully comport with the submission guidelines.
