Sat Jul 11 20:47:27 GMT 2026
The Question of Emotion in Visual Research — An International Workshop
Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the International Visual Sociology
Association.
With a spirit of collaboration, this event will take place on 15–17
October 2026 at the University of Alicante (Spain). It is organized in
collaboration with Concordia University (Montreal), the SSHRC TRANSFORM
Project based at McGill University (Montreal), the International
Research Group on the Sociology of Emotions, Bodies and Sensibilities
(EMOCS) at the University of Alicante, and the ISA Research Committee 57
(Visual Sociology).
This workshop will explore the role of emotions in visual society and,
more specifically, examine—both theoretically and empirically—how images
express particular emotions, how researchers address affect in their
methodological approaches, and the impact of affect on themselves, their
work, and the reception of that work. The workshop will feature *four
international keynote speakers*, *three interactive workshops* on
participatory visual research, a meeting with the IVSA President, *50
presentations* a gathering of researchers and a cultural event.
