Call for applications: Nordic Nerds 2026 interdisciplinary reading and
mentorship group
Applications are now open for the 2026 cohort of Nordic Nerds, a small
interdisciplinary reading and mentorship group for scholars and
professionals working on culture, technology, and digital rights.
Communication and media studies scholars are very welcome to apply.
Nordic Nerds was created to provide an informal but intellectually
serious space for discussion, feedback, and mentorship, particularly for
those who may benefit from cross-disciplinary exchange beyond formal
supervisory or institutional structures. The group is especially
relevant for PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, early-career
scholars, and related professionals, although applicants at other career
stages are also welcome.
Topics of discussion include AI and ethics, digital rights and privacy,
internet governance, platform regulation and policy, social media and
online communities, and broader intersections of culture and technology.
The group meets online every second week, typically in the afternoon
Central European Time. Meetings are held on Zoom, and ongoing group
communication takes place through Element. Members are expected to
participate regularly in discussions and group communication.
Participants may also contribute by suggesting readings, presenting
work, offering feedback, leading discussions, and mentoring junior
participants where appropriate.
Because the group is intentionally kept small, places are limited and
selection is based on fit, motivation, and willingness to contribute to
the group.
