MANCHESTER: The birth place of the industrial revolution and the place
the atom was first split. As the city in which Rolls Royce was founded
in 1904, it is one of the UK’s most important centres for creative and
technological industries. Branded a ‘Northern Powerhouse’, it has been
the site of several innovations in smart city technologies.
Examining the possible role technologies and digital medias can play in
improving life in cities, this conference strand builds on the example
of its host city to welcome papers from diverse locations internationally.
It is interested in questions around:
- Data based digital architecture, planning and construction
- Parametric modelling in building design and city planning
- Augmented reality in architectural design
- BIM, digital twinning, intelligent urbanism, and more…..
The conference forms part of the AMPS Livable Cities and Mediated Cities
event and publication programs. Bringing together universities and
scholars globally, these initiatives examine diverse readings of the
role of technologies and media in how we design, manage and represent
cities. Previous conferences in these series have been held in New York,
London, Los Angeles, Istanbul, Bangalore, Lisbon, Barcelona, Calgary and
elsewhere.
The 2026 annual conference is organised with the University of Salford,
Manchester, UK. It is subtitled ‘Critiquing the Urban Renaissance’ and
its broad research areas encompass:
AI, Smart Cities, Digital Infrastructures, Computational Design,
Augmented And Virtual Realities, Mobile Apps, Intelligent Buildings,
Parametric Urbanism, Big Data, GIS, Building Information Modelling,
Digital Accessibility, Participatory Technology.
