Mon Oct 20 20:42:56 GMT 2025

The University of Reading is pleased to have been awarded funding for doctoral studentships in the Arts and Humanities through the Arts and Humanities Research Council <https://www.ukri.org/who-we-are/ahrc/who-we-are/> (AHRC) Doctoral Landscape Award scheme <https://www.ukri.org/blog/ahrc-confirms-first-doctoral-landscape-awards/>. We are now inviting expressions of interest from candidates for a place as PhD researcher in the Dept of Film, Theatre & Television, University of Reading <https://www.reading.ac.uk/film-theatre-television/>.

FTT boasts a range of high-level expertise in film, theatre and television, and fantastic facilities in the Minghella Studios, including a cinema auditorium, ample and flexible theatre spaces, a film & TV studio, editing suites and professional-grade camera, sound and lighting equipment. The recently established *ImmerseLab *provides researchers with technology for immersive projects in all three subjects, using virtual reality and related advanced tools.

In the UoR's latest Annual Supervision Evaluation, *100% of our FTT PhD students gave us the top mark ('very satisfied')*.

Prospective applicants are invited to:

  *
Send to me expression of interest with summary proposals in
1,000-2,000 words, containing: research questions, justification,
    methodology, and bibliography.
  *
After feedback, apply online for a place as a PhD student at Reading
    here
 <https://risis.reading.ac.uk/urd/sits.urd/run/siw_ipp_lgn.login?process=siw_ipp_app&code1=P_ADM&code2=0001%22>.

  *
There is *no separate application form* for the studentships:
applicants should simply state on their application (under funding)
that they wish to be considered for the AHRC studentship.
  *
The deadline for applications is likely to be in* January 2026*.

Please note:

  *
*International applicants* are eligible to apply, but they will need
to fund the difference between Home and International fees themselves.
  *
We are waiting for further information from the AHRC and will
recirculate this invitation with further details as soon as we have
    them.
