content in MUSIC, SOUND, AND THE MOVING
IMAGE<*https://www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/journal/msmi
<https://www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/journal/msmi>*> (MSMI), a
highly regarded publication that is essential reading for those working
in and researching the study of the interaction between music and sound
in moving image media.
Essays in Issue 18, Volume
2<*https://liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/toc/msmi/18/2
<https://liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/toc/msmi/18/2>*> are part of a
special issue dedicated to Philip Tagg (1944-2024).
As a new scholarly field, library music studies has only just begun to
raise its voice within the realm of research into audiovisual media, and
that largely through the efforts of the co-editors. We have been
fortunate that the conference’s call for papers identified other
scholars and practitioners working on and in library music, whether from
historical, theoretical, or practical perspectives (and some as
scholar-practitioners). The domain of library music is enormous, so that
any individual study must necessarily content itself with covering only
an aspect or portion of that repertory. Still, the offerings of this
special issue illustrate the breadth of possibilities for research and
the depth of results that such work can yield.
