[Commlist] 19th European Conference on Game Based Learning (ECGBL 2025)

This is the second call for papers for the 19th European Conference on Game Based Learning (ECGBL 2025) hosted by Nord University, Norway on the 1-3 October 2025.



The submission deadline for this call is 12th March 2025.


Game-Based Learning (GBL) has significantly transformed how education and training are delivered. The ECGBL provides a unique opportunity for scholars and practitioners to share their research and insights on GBL. Papers are invited on a broad range of topics, including but not limited to:

Technology and implementation challenges in GBL
The role of mobile learning and MMOGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Games)
Pedagogical, social, and ethical issues in GBL
Best practices and successful case studies in GBL

The conference will take place at Nord University, located in Levanger, a university town on the southern shore of Trondheim, Norway. Nord University has campuses in Bodø and Levanger, serving Northern and Central Norway. The conference will be held at the Levanger campus.


We encourage a variety of scholarly approaches, including theoretical and empirical studies using qualitative, quantitative, and critical methods. Contributions such as action research, case studies, and work-in-progress/posters are also welcomed.

Additionally, we invite submissions from PhD researchers, non-academic contributions, and product demonstrations based on the conference themes.

Publication opportunities

Papers accepted for the conference will be published in the conference proceedings, subject to author registration and payment. The ECGBL conference proceedings are published with an ISBN and ISSN and are submitted for indexing to a number of bodies, including Thomson ISI WoS and Elsevier Scopus.


Papers that have been presented at the conference will also be considered for further development and publication in the following journals: International Journal of Game-Based Learning. published by the Information Resource Management Association (DOI: 10.4018/IJGBL, ISSN: 2155-6849, EISSN: 2155-6857)
Electronic Journal of e-Learning (ISSN 1479-4403)



The 13th International Educational Game Competition will also be held alongside the conference. For more information and to submit your game, visit the International Educational Games Competition page.



ECGBL 2025 will primarily be a physical event in Norway, but there will be an option to present online for those unable to attend in person.
