[Commlist] CFP: Detective Fiction in Video Games Call for papers
Mon Jan 06 17:00:08 GMT 2025
This book is an edited collection of chapters about detective fiction in
video games. Known primarily as a literary genre, detective fiction
thrives in contemporary forms of media, such as video games, where
authors experiment with a variety of settings and format. Whilst
detective fiction has a rich history in literature, much less has been
written about detective fiction in video games and this is one of the
primary objectives of this book.
We seek contributions from academics (in all fields) that look at
detective fiction in dialogue with video games. We are open to
experimental and innovative approaches to what this might look like.
Topics include but are not limited to transmedia, interactive
storytelling, the experience of immersion, participatory culture, genre
coding and transnational adaptation. We are responding to the cultural
renaissance of detective fiction in contemporary culture and seek to
look at how that crosses over into video games.
If you are interested in contributing, we would like a 200-300 word
abstract by the end of January 2025, followed by a full chapter of
6000-7000 words.
For abstract submission and further questions please contact Dr Dean
Bowman (d.bowman /at/ norwichuni.ac.uk) or Dr James McLean (j.s.mclean /at/ hull.ac.uk)
