[Commlist] Chevening SAJP Symposium Invite: ‘Is democracy safe in the ‘smartage’? Lessons for the UK from South Asia’sElections’
Sat Jun 22 04:26:41 GMT 2024
We are pleased to invite you to *Is democracy safe in the ‘smart
age’? Lessons for the UK from South Asia’s Elections*, a one-day
symposium convened by 20 journalists from the FCDO’s Chevening South
Asia Journalism Programme (SAJP).
In 2024, nearly a quarter of the world’s population voted in the
Indian, Pakistani and Bangladesh elections. Despite attempts to
control the outcomes, the Indian and Pakistani results brought
surprises. All three mega elections were marked by an unprecedented
use of technology – particularly generative Artificial Intelligence.
Did this enhance or damage democratic decision making? Were other
factors at work? Is democracy safer than we had thought? Or not?
The event will take place from *9:30am to 6:00pm on Wednesday 26th
June at Portland Hall, University of Westminster, 4–12 Little
Titchfield Street, London W1W 7BY*.
