[Commlist] New book - Refugee Voices: Performativity and the Struggle for Recognition

Mon Apr 22 22:01:15 GMT 2024

New book /Refugee Voices: Performativity and the Struggle for Recognition/

published by Routledge in hardback and paperback

The book uses a critical framework around the politics of voice and recognition to consider creative participatory processes that promise a voice to refugees. It draws on case-studies from two sites in the UK and considers participants’ regulated performativity within and around such projects through a reflective and creative methodological approach. It also explains how decisions around participation in these forms of production can equally exclude refugee voices from the public sphere, inhibit recognition, and in fact lead to refugee misrecognition. It will be of interest to students and researchers within Cultural Studies, Media and Communications and Migration Studies.
