*Extended Deadline *
We are delighted to invite scholars, practitioners, and artists to
contribute to an enriching discourse on migration and cultural exchange
during the international congress scheduled for 3-4 October 2024 at the
University of Lille Nord Europe.
*Theme Overview*
In today's globalized world, migration shapes societies in profound
ways, weaving through the socio-political fabric of nations and
challenging our understanding of cultural identities. The narrative of
migration in Europe, particularly in areas like the Nord region of
France, Belgium, and Southern England, has predominantly been viewed
through lenses of security and crisis management. This congress aims to
pivot the focus towards the vibrant and often underappreciated social
and artistic contributions of the Ibero-American migrant community in
these regions.
*Call for Papers*
We seek papers that shed light on the nuanced experiences of these
communities, exploring how they influence and transform their new
locales. We encourage contributions that address, but are not limited
to, the following themes:
* Artistic and Media Expressions: Exploration of the diverse artistic
outputs from these communities, how they serve as platforms for
cultural dialogue, and their impact on local cultural landscapes.
* Community Engagement: Studies on how these artistic and cultural
activities foster community interaction and social integration.
* Socio-Political Contexts: Insights into how these cultural
expressions intersect with political and social dimensions in
Europe, influencing policies and public opinion.
* Cultural and Political Impact: Analysis of the role of migrant
artistic and cultural outputs in shaping policy-making and cultural
diplomacy.
*Submission Details*
* Abstract Submission Deadline: 17 May 2024
o Please submit a 300-word abstract that outlines the main
argument, methodology, and potential contributions of your
paper. Include a brief biographical note and a list of key
publications.
* Full Paper Submission: 6 September 2024
* Languages Accepted: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French.
Why Participate?
This congress represents a critical platform for advancing a deeper
understanding of the myriad ways migration influences cultural and
social dynamics across Europe. It is an opportunity to engage with a
diverse network of scholars and to contribute to a more comprehensive
and empathetic understanding of the migrant experience.
We are committed to fostering a diverse academic environment and
encourage submissions from researchers across all related disciplines.
This event promises to offer a rich dialogue that highlights the
resilience, creativity, and transformative impact of migrant communities.
