Re/Framing: Creativity, Culture, Computation
2 July 2024 (online); 3-4 July 2024 (RMIT University, Australia)

Re/Framing is an academic/creative/industrial gathering that will explore the transformation of creativity and the creative fields by generative artificial intelligence tools; in particular, this event will explore the opportunities and innovations enabled by the sustainable and ethical use of tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, Leonardo.Ai, and Suno, in film, TV, music, advertising, audio production, and other areas.

Eschewing traditional presentations, Re/Framing is structured around roundtables, workshops, and experimental modes of idea generation. These sessions will incubate ideas around AI’s capabilities to solve complex creative and cognitive challenges, or integrate into creative workflows; other groups may devise methods for considering, reading, using, and analysing AI-generated media. Participants will also engage in guided practical, interactive workshops and hackathons, using genAI tools to solve problems, visualise stories, and imagine new futures. Curated keynote presentations and panel discussions may also inspire (these will be recorded for remote participants).

Participants will not have to prepare anything specific for the event, however a recommended reading list will be circulated in advance, and participants may like to make brief notes around open-ended ideas to pitch to others. Bring along your expertise, questions, and an open mind, in order to meet other interested folx and let ideas bloom.

The gathering aims to generate several projects for development beyond the event; these may be co-authored chapters or articles, industry papers, or creative practice projects/NTROs. These projects will be further developed at follow-up gatherings.

Expressions of interest for participation will be open until 31 May. Please include a brief CV (max 2 pages) and a summary of your interest in the event (max 150 words).

See the website http://www.reframing-ai.net/ for more information and/or to express your interest in participation. If you have any queries about the event or issues with the EOI form, please email: (daniel.binns /at/ rmit.edu.au)

Registration for observer attendance for panels and talks will be made available on the event website in the coming weeks.

NB: Two pre-event writing sessions will be held in May (one online, one in-person at RMIT), for those wishing to get a headstart and/or to put together an abstract for the ADM+S Symposium later in the year. Please indicate in your EOI if you are interested in attending these sessions.

Special thanks to the supporters and partners of Re/Framing: the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making + Society, the Australian-French Association for Research and Innovation Inc., Leonardo.Ai and Canva.
