The University of Westminster’s Communication and Media Research 
Institute (CAMRI) is pleased to announce this year’s AHRC Techne PhD 
funding for UK and International applicants to commence in 2024.

The AHRC studentships are offered through the Techne Doctoral Training 
Partnership.

ABOUT CAMRI

The Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI) in the School of 
Media and Communication is a world-leading centre in the study of media 
and communication, renowned for its critical and international research, 
which has consistently been ranked highly according to the Research

The Techne consortiumcomprises nine universities in London and the 
South-East, and awards approximately 45 AHRC studentships each year 
across a range of arts and humanities disciplines. The consortium also 
has 15 organisational partners (e.g., the ICA, BFI, Barbican, V & A, 
National Archives, Natural History Museum, Museum of London, Kew, and 
UNICEF) who will provide training and development opportunities for 
students.

Techne’s vision is to produce scholars who are highly motivated and 
prepared for academic, public, or professional life. Its students 
benefit from an exceptional range of training workshops and 
opportunities to engage with partners in the arts and cultural sector. 
Techne//iscommitted to developing cross-member supervision and therefore 
welcomes and encourages cross-institutional and/or cross-disciplinary 
supervisory teams.

The Techne competitionis now open to all international students who can 
apply for a full fees and stipend award (please note that students may 
be responsible for the difference between home fees and international fees).

If you would like to be considered for a Techne studentship at the 
University of Westminster, you will need to first apply to the

Please select the “MPhil/PhD Media Studies” programme, and make sure you 
indicate on your application form that you wish to be considered for a 
Techne studentship.

The deadline for applications is 5pm (GMT) on Friday 1 December 2023.

Interviews will be held the week commencing 15 January 2024.

If the University decides to nominate your application to Techne, it 
will then be put forward by the University to the Techne review panel. 
The final decision on the allocation of studentships rests with the 
Techne review panel. Applicants must hold an offer with the University 
of Westminster before their application can be nominated to Techne.
