Srinivas(Azim Premji University)

Offered by the Department of Humanistic Studies, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, this aims to introduce to faculty members and research scholars the pedagogical approaches and ongoing research methods in the area of Film Studies. Over a century, films have been the most commonplace medium for storytelling and a form of entertainment which engages human emotions, imagination and memory. After the digital media revolution, we live in an image-saturated culture, and the ability to appreciate and critically understand visual texts is one of the essential skills researchers in Humanities and Social Sciences need. Within Indian academia, it is also the time when Film Studies courses are becoming part of UG and PG curricula in diverse disciplines. At this juncture, we hope this can enhance the necessary skills teachers and researchers will need to teach/research in the area of Film Studies. The program will help the participants understand the research methodologies, theoretical frameworks, contemporary research questions and pedagogical challenges in the field of Film Studies. Eminent scholars will be delivering lectures based on their research in the area of Film Studies, and the participants will also get a chance to interact with the resource persons at the end of each session.
