Transformations in individual, community and political vulnerabilities in social, political and public spaces

Date: 23-24 november 2023

*Location:* University of Rome Tor Vergata

We are delighted to invite researchers and scholars to participate in the III International Conference on “Transformations in the Digital Age: Transformations in Individual, Community, and Political Vulnerabilities in Social, Political, and Public Spaces." The conference aims to explore the multifaceted challenges faced by individuals, communities, and societies in the increasingly pervasive interaction of humans with AI and n the ever more sophisticated and challenging digital space, and to foster critical discussions on strategies to address these vulnerabilities.

*Background:*

Contemporary society is witnessing profound transformations that impact the dynamics of vulnerabilities experienced by various social groups. Rapid globalization, political upheavals, technological advancements, digital contexts and environmental crises have brought forth new challenges and exacerbated existing vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities manifest at individual, community, and political levels, posing complex dilemmas for societies worldwide (Brown, Ecclestone, Emmel 2017).

*Conference Themes:*

The conference will encompass a wide range of themes, addressing the transformations in vulnerabilities across diverse social, political, and public spaces. Suggested topics for paper submissions include, but are not limited to:

1.     Social Exclusion and Marginalization: Analyses of social factors contributing to the marginalization of vulnerable groups, and strategies to promote social inclusion and cohesion.

2.     Identity and Belonging: Exploration of how shifting social dynamics impact individual and collective identities, and how a sense of belonging is constructed and disrupted.

3.     Political Agency and Participation: Examination of the challenges and opportunities for political participation and agency among vulnerable communities, and the implications for democracy.

4.     Economic Precarity: Studies on the evolving economic vulnerabilities faced by individuals and families, and the role of policies and interventions in enhancing economic security.

5.     Technological Transformations: Exploration of how technological advancements influence vulnerabilities, privacy concerns, and digital divides in the modern era.

6.     Environmental Vulnerabilities: Analysis of the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on vulnerable communities and their resilience.

7.     Migration and Refugees: Studies on the experiences of migrants and refugees in navigating social, cultural, and political vulnerabilities in host countries.

8.     Health and Well-being: Investigations into the health disparities and challenges faced by vulnerable populations, and strategies for promoting health equity.

9.     Gender and Intersectionality: Exploration of how gender intersects with other social dimensions to shape vulnerabilities and opportunities.

*Submission Guidelines:*

We welcome original research papers, both theoretical and empirical contributions, policy analyses, and case studies related to the conference themes. Communication and Media Studies scholars are welcome.

Submissions should adhere to the following guidelines:

●Abstract Length: 250-300 words

●Language: English

*Publication Opportunities:*

Selected papers presented at the conference will have the opportunity to be considered for publication in a special issue of a reputable peer-reviewed journal or an edited volume.
