Proposals for presentations are now being accepted for the Haunted Futures Conference to be held from 27th - 28th October 2023, in University College Cork.

The conference proposes to explore hauntings and ghosts as potent staging grounds for radical social change, which, in their dismantling of hegemonic relationships to time, provide a means of imagining new futures in the late-capitalist anthropocene and empowering marginalised and exploited identities, both human and otherwise.

Proposed topics include, but are not limited to:

*Ghosts and ecology

*Ghosts and time

*Defunct technologies

*Queer hauntings

*Ghosts and race

*Ghosts and gender

*Ghosts and postcolonialism

*Ghosts and the archive

*Ghosts, climate change and biodiversity loss

*Ghostwatch BBC 1992

Please note:

  *

The organisers are particularly interested in the work of
    postgraduate and early career researchers

  *

The submission fee for this event is €15, with a reduced rate of €5
for early career researchers (postgraduate students and within 5
    years of award of PhD.)

  *

The organisers will make a bursary available to one attendee. If you
wish to apply, please notify us of your intention to do so via
    email, at (hauntedfuturesconference /at/ gmail.com)
    <mailto:(hauntedfutures /at/ gmail.com)>with the subject heading [BURSARY]
    to receive an application form.

  *

The organisers also encourage proposals for artistic or
    multimedia/practice based projects.

  *

The organisers intend to publish select papers from the conference
    in an edited collection.

  *

This is an in-person event and submissions for remote presentations
    cannot be considered.

The confirmed keynote speaker for this event is Dr. Mark Fryers
