[Commlist] GAMAG-IAMCR Pre-Conference: Toward a New Gender Deal in Media and Communication

Mon May 15 21:29:38 GMT 2023

Registration is now open for the upcoming IAMCR Pre-Conference 'Towards a New Gender Deal in Media and Communications: education, research and advocacy in synergy’, promoted by the IAMCR Task Force for GAMAG and the Gender and Communication Section of IAMCR. The event will take place in hybrid format (online via Zoom and in person at the SciPo University in Lyon) on July 8th from 10.00 to 17.00 CET.

Our starting point are concerns with how old and new forms of unequal access, exclusion, discrimination, stereotyping and violence accompanying women and girls’ communication experiences are dealt with in emerging frameworks for the digital age, from the UN Global Digital Compact that will be presented at the UN Summit of the Future in 2024, to the WSIS+20 review in 2025, but also in regional regulations and national digital strategies and policies for the media. Bringing into these debates and venues the collective wisdom that emerges from various feminist experiences is a global wager: over the past years partnerships have been launched and documents produced, yet fragmentation amongst initiatives and sectors (research, education, news media and advocacy) remains an issue, whereas advocacy for digital gender justice requires trans-national initiatives to join forces so as to gain a stronger voice. The IAMCR community contributes to fostering this participatory process by bringing together scholars, researchers, teachers, journalists, media professionals and their associations, as well NGOs and grassroots groups in a Pre-Conference conceived as an open space of dialogue. We are inviting members of different organizations, including IAMCR, GAMAG, UniTWIN, CIMA, FOJO, AGEMI IFJ, ITforChange, etc. to join us.

This event does not have a conventional CFP, because its aim is to facilitate the exchange amongst a plurality of socially engaged actors, from academia, civil society, professional worlds, in order to: foster respective knowledge (of ongoing activities, understanding, priorities); identify points of common interest and convergence; and possibly develop a Roadmap for networked actions towards a /New Gender Deal in Media and Communications./
