Call for Proposals: Women and Gender Studies et Recherches Féministes Annual Conference

CONGRESS 2023

York University

May 29- June 1, 2023 | Toronto

Roundtable organized by Galina Şcolnic, PhD, Women’s and Gender Studies, University of Windsor

Emotional Labor in Social Sciences as it pertains to Administrative, Collegial, and Teaching Events

This roundtable discussion invites participants to share their experiences as it pertains to engaging in emotional labor with administrators, colleagues, and students in social sciences. For example, when a student shares emotionally triggering content (sexual violence, emotional trauma) in a classroom, how do we engage and, at the same time, maintain our own emotional health? As important, when students show resistance to some teachings (white students on the topic of race or men on the topic of gender), how do we continue engaging the classroom without catering to non-racialized, cis-gendered individuals’ sensibilities? How do we provide safe spaces for students to learn with and from each other and, also, care for our own mental health?

Please submit a 200-word abstract (and 60-word bio) of your proposed topic to (scolnic /at/ uwindsor.ca) <mailto:(scolnic /at/ uwindsor.ca)> by February 24^th .
