*CFPs: MLA Gothic Studies Forum for the 2024 Convention in Philadelphia*

In coordination with the 2024 Modern Language Association convention theme, “Joy and Sorrow,” the MLA Gothic Studies Forum is pleased to announce this call for proposals for a paired set of sessions with the themes “*Gothic Pain*” and “*Gothic Pleasure*.” In addition, the forum is pleased to solicit proposals for its signature “Gothic Now” round table, which will have the 2024 theme of “*Updates, Revisions, Adaptations, & Mash-Ups*.” The convention will be held in Philadelphia January 4-7, 2024. Proposals for all three are due by March 12^th and should be directed (tomlagothicstudiesforum /at/ gmail.com). Membership in the MLA is required in order to present.

*GOTHIC PAIN*

How does the Gothic become a strategy to process personal, shared, and historical traumas? This session will consider ways that Gothic media understands pain as acts of resistance and revolution. 200-word proposals and brief bios by March 12^th to (mlagothicstudiesforum /at/ gmail.com).

*GOTHIC PLEASURE*

How can we enjoy that which frightens or disgusts us? This session will explore the pleasures and compensations Gothic narrative affords. 200-word proposals and brief biosby March 12^th to (mlagothicstudiesforum /at/ gmail.com).

*GOTHIC NOW: Updates, Revisions, Adaptations, & Mash-Ups*

How do we reshape older Gothic texts to suit contemporary needs and desires? This round table will focus on contemporary (re)imaginings of Gothic works. 200-word proposals and brief biosby March 12^th to (mlagothicstudiesforum /at/ gmail.com).
