Thu Jan 05 13:11:52 GMT 2023

Liverpool University Press is pleased to inform you of the latest content in/MUSIC, SOUND, AND THE MOVING IMAGE <https://www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/journal/msmi> /(/MSMI/), a highly regarded publication that is essential reading for those working in and researching the study of the interaction between music and sound in moving image media.

With Volume 16.2 the editors of /MSMI/ are delighted to announce a new initiative: the publication of double-blind peer-reviewed audiovisual essay in a free to read and audioview format.

The first of these is from Evelyn Kreutzer, with her piece ‘Footsteps’, Kreutzer invites us to pay attention to the interplay of sound effects and an absence of sound in film, via an exploration of the sound of footsteps in the films of Alfred Hitchcock.

The issue also includes articles on magnetic sound recording in Hollywood during the late 1940s and early 1950s, and indie music, race, and identity within two African American independent films, /Medicine for Melancholy/ (2008) and /Pariah /(2011).
