The Media Studies Program of the Department of Communication & Theatre Arts at Old Dominion University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Media Industry Studies, beginning in July 2023. The ideal candidate will be a scholar whose research confronts the intersectional and interconnected reality of contemporary media industries—film, television, gaming, new media— while engaging with how marginalized creators and marginalized audiences function in those spaces. Areas of focus within this work might include (but are not limited to) issues of branding, franchising, intellectual property, and/or celebrity. The ideal candidate would contribute classes to both our undergraduate media studies and film studies programs, as well as our Master’s degree programs in Lifespan Communication & Digital Media and in the Humanities.

*Minimum Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities*

	

Candidates must have the ability to teach courses in two or more of the following: Media Industries, Media Spaces, Television and Society, Media Audiences, Transnational Media Systems, Media Marketing and Promotion, New Media and Society, Media History, Media Law and Policy.

*Minimum Qualifications - Education or training*

	

A PhD in Communication, Media Studies, or a complementary field is required. ABD candidates will be accepted in the pool, but hiring decisions will be contingent on the proximity of candidate’s defense date.
