[Commlist] Loyola Marymount University Assistant Professor position in Quantitative Communication Research

    The Communication Studies Department at Loyola Marymount University 
(LMU) in Los Angeles seeks applicants for a tenure-track, Assistant 
Professor position in Quantitative Communication Research, beginning 
Fall 2023.

    This position requires: 1) expertise in quantitative approaches to 
communication research, 2) a global perspective to the discipline, and 
3) expertise in one or more of the following research areas: relational 
communication, intercultural communication, organizational 
communication, and/or strategic communication.

    All candidates are invited to share how they meet the requirements 
of our position and inform our collective work as a scholarly community.

    Position Qualifications:

    Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Communication in hand at the time a 
contract is offered. Final appointment is dependent on a confirmed 
terminal degree status. Applicants who have not yet completed their 
doctorate must demonstrate progress verifiable by evidence and 
substantive enough to ensure completion of their degree at the time of 
appointment.

    Candidates must be able to develop and teach required introductory, 
advanced, and capstone courses in our major as appropriate to area or 
areas of emphasis. Candidates are also expected to teach introductory 
courses in communication theory and research methods as well as propose 
new upper division courses to expand our offerings. While expertise in 
quantitative methods is required, candidates with the ability to teach 
mixed methods are preferred. Candidates are expected to contribute to 
the University core curriculum.

    Candidates are required to have evidence of a strong record of 
university or equivalent teaching excellence. Application materials 
should clearly demonstrate the ability to teach anticipated courses in 
our curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to enrich 
existing and newly developed courses through innovative pedagogical 
approaches, such as applied, experiential, community-based, or other 
inventive and critical pedagogies.

    The successful candidate will be expected to adopt a 
teacher-scholar model of professional engagement with a commitment to 
service and an established (or promise of a) productive agenda of 
research and scholarship. We value a diverse array of professional and 
practical experience in addition to the required academic qualifications.

    Communication Studies is one of the largest undergraduate programs 
at LMU. In keeping with LMU's mission, our department emphasizes the

application portfolio requires: 1) a letter of application, 2) a current 
curriculum vitae, 3) unofficial transcripts (submitted as a single pdf), 
4) one example of representative scholarship (such as a published 
article, key dissertation chapter, competitively selected conference 
paper, or manuscript submission), and 5) evidence of teaching excellence 
(a two-page summary of teaching evaluative criteria, evaluator type such 
as students, advisors, employers, etc., and results).

    Candidates should be prepared to submit the following materials 
upon request should they advance further in the search process: official 
transcripts, complete copies of original teaching evaluations (including 
qualitative comments) or other evaluations reflecting most recent years 
of university-level or equivalent teaching, a statement of teaching 
philosophy, sample syllabi related to the position, three letters of 
recommendation, and if the candidate does not have a doctorate, evidence 
of timeline and anticipated completion.
