[Commlist] Job Vacancy: Professor of Media Industries, University of Nottingham, UK

Tue Jul 26 11:15:53 GMT 2022

The Department of Cultural, Visual and Media studies is seeking to appoint a Professor of Media Industries. The Department is part of the School of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies, and we are looking for an outstanding academic to join this vibrant research and learning community.

Our School thrives through the different ideas and experiences of colleagues, who come from a mix of cultures and backgrounds. We strive to foster a welcoming, inspiring and supportive workplace. We are seeking applications from candidates whose background, experience and identity broadens and enhances the diversity of our existing team and would especially welcome applications from members of groups who are currently underrepresented in the School, particularly Black, Asian and minority ethnic scholars. We understand that having a mix of perspectives, lived experiences and approaches to teaching and research enhances our day-to-day work and enriches our School community.

The Department takes pride in supporting a research culture that is inclusive, supportive, ambitious and developmental for staff at all stages of their career, and within which individual and collaborative research can flourish, can influence the wider discipline, and have an impact far beyond the academy. We are therefore particularly pleased that 90% of our research environment has been evaluated as ‘world leading’ in REF2021 (the UK’s Research Excellence Framework) the national assessment of UK university research.

We seek candidates with research expertise in transformations within the Media Industries that may include one or more of the following specialisms:  Emergent media technologies, Sustainability, Immersive Media, Equity and Inclusion or Cultures and practices in the Global South. You will undertake a substantive programme of research consistent with professorial standing, leading to significant grant applications, contributing to potential impact case studies and research outputs.  We are currently revising our undergraduate curriculum and implementing significant innovation within our learning provision; the successful candidate will lead a similar project across our postgraduate taught provision on the basis of their innovative teaching practice and experience.  Ideally, this would speak to a set of global and decolonial perspectives and imperatives.

You will have responsibility for contributing to leading the department in administrative terms as well as serving as Head of Department in rotation with colleagues. You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as supervising postgraduate research students.

The successful candidate will be expected to raise the profile of the Department of Cultural, Media and Visual Studies both within the University and beyond, at the national and international levels.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Helen Kennedy, via email (helen.kennedy /at/ nottingham.ac.uk) <mailto:(helen.kennedy /at/ nottingham.ac.uk)>. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.

This position is available on a permanent, full-time basis (36.25 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.
