The Department of Media and Communication of the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is looking for four new colleagues:

 1. Assistant Professor (1.0 fte) in AI & Society
 2. Assistant Professor (1.0 fte) in Media & Creative Industries
3. Assistant Professor (1.0 fte) in Digitalization and Responsible Business
 4. Assistant Professor (1.0 fte) in Mediatization and Digitalization


The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is extending its research and educational activities in the area of Digitalization, Mediatization and Media & Creative Industries. JOB DESCRIPTION
The successful candidate is expected to:

  * perform teaching tasks in our degree programmes at Bachelor’s and
    Master’s level. This involves giving lectures, teaching in seminars
    and work groups, and individual supervision of BA and MA theses and
    internships;
  * develop and coordinate courses for our BA and MA programmes;
  * participate in the research programmes of the department and school;
  * publishing research findings in (high impact) international
    scientific journals;
  * contribute to the acquisition of external research funding that
    strengthens the department’s research in one or more of the
    aforementioned research areas;
  * contribute to the management tasks of the department;
  * take an active part in relevant national and international academic
    networks and organizations.

REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible, a candidate must have:

  * A PhD degree in the social sciences or humanities, preferably in
    media and communication.
  * A broad knowledge of key theories and perspectives in the field of
    media and communication.
  * Extensive knowledge of - and ample experience with - a wide range of
    social science research methods. We are particularly looking for
    candidates with expertise in digital research methods.
  * Prior teaching experience, preferably in an international
    environment, and the proven ability to inspire students from
    undergraduate to postgraduate levels. Candidates who don’t possess a
    formal teaching qualification, are expected to acquire it within two
    years (according to the standards of the so-called BKO-University
    Teaching Qualification);
  * Extensive research experience, evidenced by ample publications in
    renowned international journals and grants acquisition efforts;
  * A track record in making societal impact, for example having worked
    with societal partners, presented research to a non-academic audience;
  * Excellent proficiency in spoken and written English. (Non-English
    speakers have to meet the C2-standards of the Common European
    Framework (CEFR).
  * Strong communication, organizational and team working skills and the
    ability to co-operate with others and perform well within an
    international and diverse working environment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment starts preferably on 1 November 2022 and will run for a fixed term of 1.5 years initially, to be converted into a permanent contract contingent upon an excellent performance.

The conditions of employment correspond with the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) of the Dutch Universities (CAO NU). Salary is dependent on your training, experience, knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 3.974,- to a maximum of € 6.181,- gross per month on a fulltime basis, in accordance with Scale 11 or 12 of the CAO-NU. In accordance with the CAO NU a placement in a starting grade is possible for the maximum duration of two years.

In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision, and we offer partially paid parental leave, fully paid extended birth leave for partners, a personal career budget, work-life balance coaches, discounted collective health insurance, and more. As an employee, you can also use EUR facilities such as the University library and receive a discount on subscriptions for the Erasmus sports centre.

Erasmus University Rotterdam offers a Dual Career Programme (DCP) to assist the life partners of new academic staff (on payroll) in finding employment in The Netherlands. The programme is offered in close cooperation with the nearby universities of Delft and Leiden.

DEPARTMENT
The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC)
The Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication (ESHCC) is part of Erasmus University Rotterdam. The school has three departments: History,  Arts and Culture and Media & Communication. There are approximately 2500 students and over 220 employees.

ESHCC offers high quality education, based on scientific research, at the intersection of the Humanities and Social Sciences. We teach our ambitious, Dutch and international students in a stimulating learning environment. After graduation, they will have acquired the knowledge, insight and skills to make an important and inspiring contribution to an increasingly international society in which diversity plays a major role.

The ESHCC also has an ambitious research agenda. We want to strengthen our involvement in multidisciplinary research, expand the share of external funding in our total research funding and increase our social impact. Research takes place within the framework of two research centres:  ERMeCC and History@Erasmus.

ESHCC is located in the Van der Goot (M) Building on the Woudestein campus of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
